Election of members to the Board of NMBI
 

Notice of election for four nurses and one midwife to be members of the Board of NMBI was published on 8 June 2017. Nominations opened on 23 June 2017 and closed 3 July 2017 at 1pm. Eight nominations were received and all were deemed eligible.

The following candidates were declared validly nominated for the following categories:

Category 2 - intellectual disability nursing:
Sharon Phelan
Liam Hamill

Category 4 - midwifery:
Mary Gorman
Nicola Clarke

Category 5 - care of older persons:
Deirdre Lang
Eileen Kelly



As there was only one nominated candidate in the following categories a poll shall not be taken and the nominees are deemed to be elected:


Category 1 - psychiatric nursing:
Catherine Cocoman

Category 3 - public health nursing
Essene Cassidy


Catherine Cocoman's and Essene Cassidy's names will be forwarded to the Minister for Health for appointment.

Advanced practice nursing and midwifery
 

The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland recently published Advanced Practice Nursing Standards and Requirements. New criteria for registration as an ANP/AMP do not apply to applicants going forward for registration at the meeting to be held on Tuesday, 5 September. You will be informed when the criteria for registration as an ANP/AMP change.

Please note the following submission dates:

Job descriptions must be submitted to the Advanced Practice Section of NMBI on or before Friday, 28 July 2017.

Portfolios must be submitted to the Advanced Practice Section of NMBI by Friday,11 August 2017.

Academic transcripts for the masters and relevant specialist post-registration programme(s) must be submitted directly to Advanced Practice Section of the NMBI by the higher education institution. NMBI do not require transcripts for undergraduate nursing/midwifery education.

Nursing and Midwifery Leadership Network (NMLN)
 

Over the last three years, the Irish Association of Directors of Nursing and Midwifery (IADNM) and partner organisations including the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland, the Office of the Chief Nurse (Department of Health), Office of the Nursing and Midwifery Services Director (HSE), INMO, Royal College of Surgeons of Ireland, and Heads of Deans and Faculties of Nursing and Midwifery formed a Nursing and Midwifery Leadership Network (NMLN).  The purpose of the NMLN is to collaborate and share ideas and experiences and to reflect, discuss and articulate a voice for the professions that is representative, credible, innovative and visionary.  The NMLN aims to promote, strengthen and amplify the voices of the professions of nursing and midwifery and ensure that nurses and midwives are at the forefront of crafting new models for health and social care systems in the years ahead.

The NMLN recently launched The Power of Conversation: Nursing and Midwifery Leadership in Action, which portrays four big group conversational events, the outcomes of which were configured around themes.

HIQA has published an updated version of the Guidance on Messaging Standards for Ireland.

Messaging standards, which enable information to be shared electronically, play an important role in the development of eHealth. The purpose of this guidance is to provide direction on healthcare messaging standards in Ireland. Find out more.
