New format for 2013 Annual Retention Certificate

The Annual Retention Certificate previously issued has been replaced by a new version.  A sample of this new version is available to view on our website.

NMBI will now use a special harp watermarked paper when printing our Annual Retention Certificate.  As part of a shared services approach this special harp paper significantly reduces the costs associated with this annual process as well as improving the security element of the Certificate.

If you are registering a first time qualification or an additional qualification we will continue to issue the old style Certificate up to the 31 December 2012 for this group only.

If you or your employer have any queries relating to the above please contact our office at registration@nmbi.ie.

Update on Review of the Code of Professional Conduct

NMBI continues to progress work on its new code of professional conduct and ethics for registrants, heading for national consultation in January.

The Ethics Subgroup last met on 5 December to review the draft text and consultation plans. A meeting of the External Advisory Group was also held on 9 November, topics of discussion included the recent revisions of the Code, legal advice and the next consultation phase.  Stakeholders were asked to encourage their organisations’ members and staff to participate in the upcoming consultation.

Your input is important to help us produce a new code that establishes the professional values and standards expected by nurses, midwives, patients, service users and the public.  Key goals for the future Code include: to provide guidance for ethical decision-making, to act as an an aid to use in your day to day practice and as a support for on-going reflection and professional self-development.  Accompanying guidance is planned to link with the Code.  Guidance on Social Media is the first topic being drafted.

Heading into the New Year we ask that you as a registered nurse or registered midwife actively engage with the national consultation and the NMBI’s call for submissions.  Your opinions and views are wanted!

The specific details about the consultation period will be posted in the January ezine and in other information sources, be on the lookout!  As a reminder the report of the focus groups findings on the draft code which were conducted earlier this year is available on our site.

Any comments regarding the review can be sent to reviewofcode@nursingboard.ie.
