First Nurses Week Announced By NMBI
Nurses Week 2013 to take place from October 7 to 11.

Thursday, October 3, 2013: The Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland (NMBI) has announced its inaugural Nurses Week, which will run from next Monday, October 7 until Friday, October 11, 2013. Click here for further details.

 
Nurses Week Debate, Friday 11 October 2013
As part of Nurses week, NMBI is hosting a debate entitled 'What is the future of nursing in an ever evolving and dynamic healthcare environment'? You are welcome to attend.  Click here for further details.

Appointment of Chief Nursing Officer in the Department of Health

Mr Paul Gallagher, President NMBI wishes to congratulate Dr. Siobhan O Halloran on her appointment as Chief Nursing Officer at the Department of Health.  "We very much welcome Dr. O Halloran’s appointment at senior policy level at the Department of Health in these challenging times."  Also commenting on the appointment, Dr Maura Pidgeon, CEO NMBI said she looks forward to working with Dr. O Halloran to support leadership for nursing and midwifery at national level.

Nursing Homes Ireland (NHI) New Booklet
Nursing Homes Ireland is delighted to announce the launch of 'Quality Living, Quality Care - Living in a Nursing Home' booklet that provides valuable information and advice for persons considering nursing home care. Quality Living, Quality Care informs in respect of:

• Healthcare,
• The rights of persons living in nursing homes,
• Nursing home facilities, activities, meals,
• The Nursing Home Support Scheme (Fair Deal)
• Choosing a nursing home
• Tax relief on nursing home fees.

Irish Medicines Board - Drug Safety Newsletter

There are changes to the arrangements for the distribution of the Drug Safety Newsletter. 


Hard copy versions will be phased out over the coming months when electronic versions will become the main method of dissemination. Healthcare professionals must register as subscribers on the IMB website or provide their email contact details by 30 September to continue to receive the IMB newsletter.

NMBI is delighted as part of Nurses Week to promote the work of nurses around the country.  St Mary's Hospital, Phoenix Park, Dublin 20, has developed its website 'Nursing in the Park' to showcase all that has been achieved by the nurses. The site is designed to reflect the tremendous work that goes on there.  Quality of care – safety, effectiveness and resident and patient experience – is at the forefront of everything they do.  Click here for further details.

NMBI also provides a directory that has information on hundreds of continuing education and professional development programmes that have NMBI Category 1 approval. This Directory is available to access on our website and is managed by the Education Department of the Board.

 2. RCSI 33rd Annual International Nursing & Midwifery Research & Education Conference


The Faculty of Nursing & Midwifery RCSI, will hold the the 33rd Annual International Nursing & Midwifery Research & Education Conference entitled “Fundamentals of Nursing & Midwifery Practice” on Wednesday 19 & Thursday 20 February 2014.

 The event will take place in The Royal College of Surgeons Ireland, 123 St Stephens Green, Dublin 2.
