As part of Midwives Week 2016 NMBI is hosting the Annual Student Midwife Debate. The theme for the debate this year centres around 1916 – 2016 and poses the question: “Do contemporary maternity services reflect the commitment made to women and children in the 1916 Proclamation?” The debating teams will consist of six student midwives, one representing each of the higher education institutions that provide midwife education programmes. Removal from Register for consideration 24 May 2016

The Board of NMBI will be considering the removal of names from the Register of Nurses and Midwives for non-payment of the Annual Retention Fee for 2016 at its meeting on Tuesday, 24 May 2016. If a registrant's name is removed it will illegal for her/him to practise nursing or midwifery in Ireland. NMBI will immediately inform the registrant, the Minister for Health, the HSE and other known employers of this removal. Find out more.

Overseas applications: Important deadline
 
Registration
From 1 March 2016 all documentation required to fully assess overseas applications must be provided to NMBI no later than six months from the application date. After this six month deadline, the application will be closed and all documents received will be no longer be valid. Find out more.
Report published on nurse and midwife prescribing systems and processes
 

NMBI partnered with the Office of the Nursing and Midwifery Services Director (ONMSD) within the Health Service Executive (HSE) to publish a report on the review of nurse and midwife prescribing systems and processes. Learn more.


Decisions following Fitness to Practise Inquiries
 

The Board of NMBI has made decisions as to findings and sanctions arising from one complaint received under the Nurses and Midwives Act, 2011 and one received under the Nurses Act, 1985.

The findings were made against Ms Edel Maria Fitzgerald (PIN 12876) and Ms Ann Maria Gillooly (PIN 48096).
