Election candidates
 

NMBI will hold an election for three nurses and midwives to join the Board in November 2015.
The three persons to be elected to the NMBI Board are in the following categories:

  • From the practice of general nursing
  • From the practice of children’s nursing - the person must be engaged in clinical practice
  • Employed in the public health sector and engaged in the education of nurses and midwives

Updated Scope of Practice comes into effect 31 October
 
As a reminder, the recently revised Scope of Nursing and Midwifery Practice Framework, launched in September 2015, will come into effect 31 October 2015. It replaces the publication produced by An Bord Altranais in 2000. NMBI encourages you to view the new Scope framework, its accompanying decision-making flowchart and glossary. The Scope alongside the Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics provide guidance to you in determining your roles and responsibilities for professional practice.

Adaptation programmes: Alternative now available
 

The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (RCSI) has been granted approval by the Board of NMBI to offer an aptitude test. This is now available as an alternative to applicants for registration who have received decision letter from NMBI requesting that they successfully complete a period of adaptation and assessment as a pre-requisite to registration in the GENERAL division of the Register.  Applicants can only choose ONE of the options below:

  • Option 1 : Adaptation and Assessment decision already issued

OR

  • Option 2 : RCSI Aptitude test 

If an applicant has not secured an adaptation placement OR applied to sit the RCSI Aptitude test within the twelve month timeframe their file will be closed.  

NMBI would also appreciate if you could advise our office if you are NOT  pursuing registration by seeking a placement on either of the above options.

Upcoming consultation: Dementia palliative care guidance documents for staff
 
As part of The Irish Hospice Foundation's Changing Minds Programme, a suite of guidance documents to support healthcare staff working with people with dementia from all care settings, in addressing specific aspects of dementia palliative care, is under development. As part of this suite, four guidance documents have been developed by a team of academics and clinicians led by Dr Alice Coffey, University College Cork. The Irish Hospice Foundation will be launching a public consultation on each of these four documents and associated factsheets on Wednesday, 4 November 2015.  The consultation will close at 5pm on Wednesday, 16 November November 2015. The documents will be made available on the Irish Hospice Foundation website on Wednesday 4 November 2015 from 12 noon.

Compassion in Healthcare Masterclass 2015
 
A compassion in healthcare masterclass entitled "Building Compassionate Healing Environments where Patients & Staff Flourish" will take place on 11 November 2015 in the Lecture Theatre at the Centre for Learning & Development in Tallaght Hospital from 10.00am until 12.45pm.
