National Clinical Effectiveness Committee - Launch of new Guideline on MRSA
On 11 December, 2013 the Minister for Health, Dr James Reilly T.D. launched an important new patient safety initiative - the 2nd National Clinical Guideline - Prevention and Control Methicillin-Resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA).

Nurses and Midwives are encouraged to look and adapt the guideline into their practice. Click here for further information.

 
NMBI Code Consultation Submissions: Closing Date Friday 10 January 2014

NMBI is developing a Code of Professional Conduct and Ethics for Registered Nurses and Registered Midwives as required by the Nurses and Midwives Act, 2011. A national twelve-week consultation on the draft version of this code commenced on  Monday 7 October 2013 and will conclude on Friday 10 January 2014.

Nurses and Midwives Rules 2013

In accordance with Section 13 (4) (b) of the Nurses and Midwives Act 2011 the Board invites registrants, members of the public, any organisation and any other body to make submissions on the draft Nurses and Midwives Rules 2013.

Complaints against Nurses and Midwives

Regulation Matters (Issue 5, November 2013) contains a 4-page pull-out article about complaints against nurses and midwives. This article highlights some key differences between fitness to practise arrangements under the Nurses Act, 1985 and the Nurses and Midwives Act, 2011.

The Irish Maternity Early Warning System - I-MEWS

I-MEWS is a nationally agreed scoring system developed for early detection of life threatening illness in pregnancy and the postnatal period.
As well as the guideline, a patient information leaflet was also produced to promote improved safety in patient care and to empower patients to take greater control over their health and well-being whilst in hospitals in Ireland.
