Medicines make a significant contribution to the health and wellbeing of people and nurses and midwives are uniquely positioned to support the safe and effective use of medicines. The use of medicines in Ireland has increased and poly pharmacy is now normal clinical practice. This increase in the use of medicines brings with it an increasing challenge for nurses and midwives to maintain safety. Read more.

1,025 nurses and midwives registered since start of year
 
NMBI has registered 1,025 nurses and midwives to enter the Irish health system since 1st January 2016 as compared to 674 at this time last year. Read more.

Irish Hospice Foundation report: Only 210 dementia patients die at home every year
 
Irish Hospice Foundation
New research by the Irish Hospice Foundation shows that, of the 4,200 people with dementia who die in Ireland each year, only 210 die at home while 2,310 die in residential care settings, and a further 1,680 die in acute hospitals. Read more.
