The first formal meeting of the new Board took place on 16 and 17 April at the offices of Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann (NMBI). At the meeting Mr Paul Gallagher was elected President, and Mr. John Murray was elected vice-president.

Update on the Review of the Code of Professional Conduct

The project timeline for the second phase of consultation for the proposed new code of professional conduct and ethics for registered nurses and registered midwives has been rescheduled for early Autumn of this year.

Immediate changes to Category 1 approval and the award of NMBI Continuing Education Units

From April 2013, Category 1 approval and the granting of NMBI Continuing Education Units (CEUs) is now extended to a 2 year timeframe as appropriate. Until recently programme approval extended to face to face and blended learning methods. However approval is now also extended to e-learning programmes. The Category 1 application form has been amended to facilitate e-learning programme submissions.

Advice from the IMB regarding Blood Glucose Meters

The Irish Medicines Board (IMB) has issued the following safety notice SN2013(04) in relation to OneTouch Verio Pro and OneTouch Verio IQ Blood Glucose Meters manufactured by LifeScan for health professional working with patients with diabetes.
