Following the signing of Commencement Order (S.I. No. 385) of 2012, our name has changed to Bord Altranais agus Cnáimhseachais na hÉireann, or, Nursing and Midwifery Board of Ireland. This change of name reflects the recognition of midwifery as a separate and distinct profession.

Board Election 2012

The Board Election 2012 was completed on 1 October 2012. An Bord Altranais became the first regulator to hold an election by e-voting and eight nurses and midwives have been appointed to the new Board.

Submission made to the Mental Health Commission

An Bord Altranais participates in consultations on matters relating to nurses and midwives and the practice of nursing and midwifery. In September An Bord Altranais' responded to a consultation by the Mental Health Commission through a written submission.


The consultation was entitled 
Consultation on Draft Seclusion and Physical Restraint Reduction Strategy.  To read the Board's response, click here

HIQA Publishes Guidance on Improving Patient Safety
New guidance to improve patient safety and strengthen safeguards around the use of personal health information has been published by the Health Information and Quality Authority (HIQA).
