Advanced practice nursing standards and requirements
|
Advanced practice nursing is defined as a career pathway for registered nurses, committed to continuing professional development and clinical supervision, to practice at a higher level of capability as independent, autonomous, and expert practitioners. NMBI have approved Advanced Practice Nursing Standards and Requirements, which include six domains of competence specifying the standards that describe advanced nurse practitioner practice.
Standards and requirements for the approval of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs), associated Healthcare Providers and education programmes that lead to registration as an Advanced Nurse Practitioner, will guide the development and delivery of evidence based education programmes that prepare nurses to register as Advanced Nurse Practitioners. NMBI acknowledge that new competences and standards will impact on HEIs, health service providers and nurses currently enrolled in education programmes and transition to new education programmes is expected to take time.
NMBI approval of current education programmes will continue based on the old competences and we will also continue to accept portfolios based on the current guidelines . Standards and Requirements will be available on our website soon. For further information email mdoolan@nmbi.ie
